Privacy Policy

Effective

The short version.PlainCopy has no account, and the developer never receives your scans or the text in them. Today the only thing the app sends on its own is your purchase record, not linked to you. If that ever changes, for example with ads or anonymous usage statistics, this policy, the app’s Privacy screen and the App Store privacy label will say so first.

Who We Are

PlainCopy is made by an independent app developer. Contact: support@plaincopy.app. This policy covers the PlainCopy app for iPhone and iPad and the website plaincopy.app.

What Stays on Your Device

  • Your scans.PDFs live in the Files app, in your iCloud Drive or on this device. If you use iCloud Drive, Apple syncs them between your devices under Apple’s terms; we have no access to your iCloud.
  • Text recognition. Reading the words on a page happens on your device.
  • Smart naming and filing suggestions. Names, folders and tags are worked out on your device from the text of the scan.
  • Search. The search index is built from your files on your device.
  • Signatures, Send To destinations and settings. Stored on your device. Server passwords and API tokens are stored in the device Keychain, on this device only.

What Leaves Only When You Send It

  • Share. A scan goes to the app, person or folder you pick in the share sheet.
  • Send To. A destination sends a scan to the folder, email address or server you set up, when you tap it or when a tag rule you created applies. The developer receives nothing.

What Leaves on Its Own: Your Purchase Record

In-app purchases are processed by Apple. To unlock and keep Pro in sync, the app uses RevenueCat, Inc. as a processor. RevenueCat receives the App Store purchase history of PlainCopy (products, prices, dates, transaction identifiers), the app and iOS version, a random identifier created by the app, and Apple’s identifier for vendor (IDFV, a device identifier that is the same only across one developer’s apps and is not the advertising identifier). Like any server, it also sees your IP address. These are used to validate purchases and keep Pro in sync, not for advertising or tracking, and are not linked to your identity. RevenueCat does not receive your name, email, Apple Account, scans or their text. This check happens when the app starts, whether or not you buy anything. RevenueCat’s privacy policy: revenuecat.com/privacy.

Retention and Deletion

The random identifier is not linked to you and lives in the app; deleting the app drops it (a reinstall makes a new one, and Restore attaches past purchases again). To ask for the RevenueCat record to be deleted, email support@plaincopy.app with the date and plan of your purchase. Your scans are your files: delete them in the app or in Files. Deleted documents stay in Recently Deleted for 30 days, then are removed for good.

Permissions

Camera, for scanning only. Photos: PlainCopy uses Apple’s photo picker, so it sees only the photos you pick and has no access to the rest of your library. Face ID, only for the optional app lock; the app never sees biometric data. Local Network, only to reach a WebDAV or Paperless-ngx server you added.

App Store Privacy Label

Data collected: Purchases (purchase history), via RevenueCat, not linked to you, not used for tracking. Nothing else.

Children

PlainCopy is not directed at children.

This Website

plaincopy.app is static files served from our own server. It sets no cookies, uses no analytics, loads nothing from other domains, and keeps no visitor log. Links to the App Store, Apple’s terms and RevenueCat lead to those companies’ sites and policies. If you email support, we keep the email to answer it.

Changes

When this policy changes, the effective date above changes and the app’s Privacy screen says so. Changes we would announce here before they ship include ads for free users, anonymous usage statistics, or a limit on free pages. None of these exist in the app today.
