Short answer

PlainCopy is free to scan, edit, name and export on iPhone and iPad (iOS 17 or later). Exports never get a watermark, and there is no account or sign-up. What Is Free in PlainCopy?

Scanning with the iOS document scanner, importing from Photos and Files, crop, rotate, reorder, six filters and shadow clean-up, saving as PDF or JPG, sharing to Files, Mail or any app, smart naming, filename templates, folders, tags, search by title and Recently Deleted. The file size is yours to pick: Small, Standard or Best. None of it adds a watermark.

Why Is There No Watermark?

PlainCopy charges for what happens after the scan: text recognition, filing and sending. So exports never get a watermark, and the promise in the app says so.

Do I Need an Account?

No. PlainCopy has no login and never asks for your name or email. Your scans are plain PDF files in your own Files or iCloud Drive folder, so they survive a new phone without any account. Buying Pro goes through your Apple Account, as any App Store purchase does.

Is There a Catch with the Free Version?

Free covers scanning, editing, naming and exporting. What is fixed is the promise: a document you saved stays yours, intact and exportable, whatever your plan. If anything about the free version changes, the app and this site will say so before it does.

How Small Are the Files?

About 400 KB per A4 page at Standard, which is the default. Small is about 200 KB a page for forms and email. Best is about 1.3 MB a page for photos and fine print. PlainCopy shows the size before you share, and you can change it for one document without changing the default.

What Does Pro Add?

Searchable OCR PDFs in 12 or more languages and full-text search, filing suggestions, Send To (a Files folder, Paperless-ngx, WebDAV or email in one tap), ID card mode, sign, merge and split, a password on the PDF you share, and a Face ID or Touch ID lock. Pro is $34.99 a year with a 7-day free trial, $6.99 a month, or $59.99 once. See pricing.
